The area on the map isn't yours yet. You run a loop around the park — and the land inside the loop becomes yours. You run through a neighbor's section — you take that too. In the runners' ranking you move up to first place.

Over the next 12 weeks, inclines can become part of your work on strength endurance and running technique. Their load depends not only on speed, but also on the gradient, the length of the segment and the nature of the descent. It's worth starting with terrain you can handle: hills noticeably load the calf muscles and Achilles tendons.
In 1trAIner, the coach selects workouts to suit your level, the hills available to you and your weekly schedule. Data from connected Garmin or Apple Watch devices syncs automatically, and the training plan is recalculated after each workout. Descriptions of the surface and how you feel after descents help supplement the watch data.
The first workouts focus on controlling your effort and keeping a compact, controlled stride, rather than trying to maintain your flat-ground pace. As readiness allows, the volume of uphill running increases, with recovery on the descents remaining part of the workout. Progress is measured by the quality of your hill repeats and how well you handle the training load, not just your uphill speed.
